How Nyimusa Foundation Grew from a Vision to Transform Lives in Uganda
2007
The Beginning
Ssuna Derrick joined a school program run by Sofia Graflund as one of the marginalized children we now serve. This experience inspired the vision that would later shape Nyimusa Foundation.
2016
Foundation Established
Nyimusa Foundation was officially founded by Sofia Graflund and Ssuna Derrick to be Uganda’s most transparent and sustainable NGO. Our mission goes beyond providing basic needs—food, housing, education, and healthcare—to giving children hope and tools to contribute to Uganda’s future.
2021
Building Our Home in Buwama
We purchased land in Buwama and began preparing for Nyimusa Village. To support this vision, we launched agricultural projects to generate revenue, developed essential infrastructure such as safe roads and clean water systems, and constructed the foundations for our future buildings. Nyimusa Sweden was incorporated as a foundation (“Sw. Insamlingsstiftelse”)
Our Vision for the Future
Our vision for Nyimusa Village includes building a school for up to 300 students, comprising of nursery and primary education, and vocational training and establishing a health clinic to serve both our children and the local community. In addition, we continue to invest in agricultural activities to strengthen the organisation’s long-term financial stability.
